FBX (Filmbox) is a proprietary file format developed by Autodesk. It's the industry standard for exchanging 3D data between applications like Maya, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, and game engines.

  • Industry standard for animation pipelines
  • Supports skeletal animation and blend shapes
  • Preserves scene hierarchy and transforms

Use Cases

FBX is commonly used in game development, film production, and 3D animation workflows. It excels at preserving complex rigging and animation data.

  • Game engine import (Unity, Unreal)
  • Character animation and rigging

FBX Viewer FAQ

Common questions about viewing FBX files online

What is an FBX file?

FBX (Filmbox) is a 3D file format developed by Autodesk. It's widely used in the game and film industry for exchanging 3D assets including geometry, textures, animations, and rigging data between different software applications.

Are animations supported?

Our web viewer currently displays FBX geometry in a static pose. Animation playback support is planned for a future update. For animated content, consider using a desktop application like Blender or the Unity/Unreal engine.

Why are my textures not showing?

FBX files can reference external texture files or embed textures. Our viewer applies a default material for consistent display. For textured viewing, convert your FBX to GLB format which embeds textures in a single file.

How do I convert FBX to GLB?

You can convert FBX to GLB using Blender (free): import your FBX file, then export as glTF Binary (.glb). Make sure to include textures in the export settings. Online converters are also available.

Which FBX versions are supported?

Our viewer supports most common FBX versions (7.x). Very old or binary FBX files may have compatibility issues. If loading fails, try re-exporting the file from your 3D software with ASCII format.

Can I create 3D models with your service?

Yes! Our AI-powered 3D generator creates models in GLB format. Try our Creative Plaza models for free, or upload your own images for custom 3D figurine generation.
